We became interested in goats the same way
many people do, for weed eaters. We have acreage that has
dense underbrush and needed it cleared.
|
We started out with a few
nondescript goats, then came across a good buy on some
registered Nubian goats. We discovered it cost no more
to feed registered animals than unregistered ones. Goats
have delightful personalities, and they enjoy human contact.

|
We showed our goats successfully for a while,
but got involved in showing horses and had no time for both, but
several of the goats that we have sold are doing well in the show
ring. Most people in the show circuit are more than willing
to help the novice and are very friendly.

Goats meet a growing need
for milk, skin, and meat. Their milk is reputed to be
more digestible than cow's milk. Also it is a universal
milk for rehab animals, such as squirrels, deer, raccoons, and
many others. The Nubian goat will stay in milk for 10
months or longer, and if pasteurized correctly it is tasty.
The milk can also be used for cheese. |

|
The goat skin is
extremely soft and is used for gloves etc. The meat of a young
whither goat is very mild and good tasting. As the goat gets
older the meat tends to get a little "goaty" tasting.
